The Basics
of makeup
Use the menu
above and click on the links to read about each item of makeup, it tells you
what they do and what they’re best for. For starters I would recommend getting
a foundation, concealer, blusher, powder and mascara. Obviously if you haven’t
worn makeup before don’t wake up one day and cake everything on, start of
wearing foundation, concealer and blusher and see how it goes. The next week
try adding some mascara. Introduce products gradually.
What you
have in your makeup bag will vary depending on your style, what you’re
comfortable with and your skin type. For example someone with naturally clear
skin might not need a concealer because they don’t have any blemishes or
imperfections to cover (if you’re one of them then I’m jealous of you). Also
some people like the natural look so may not want eyeliner or eye shadow
because they just like to wear mascara and nothing else. If you’ve never used
makeup before I suggest you start off with the lower priced products. In the UK
if you have a Boots near you I highly recommend ‘The Natural collection’ it
provides all of the basics and is normally three products for £5. Once you have
tried them out you may want to spend a little more on higher quality products
such as Bourjois, Maybelline New York and Maxfactor.
I really do
not recommend going places such as Jarolds or Debenhams to buy your first
foundation and get something from a top cosmetic brand that costs a lot. The chances
are you might buy a liquid foundation wear it for one day and find that you
don’t like wearing it and you won’t wear it again. It’s all about experimenting
to see what you like and what suits you (plus the sales representatives at the
counters pull you in, tell you what is best for you then pressurise you into
buying it just so they reach their target sales).
